Your data is sacred to us. But data protection is only half the battle in the hosting business. The other half is availability. After all, what good is data that you can’t access? Exactly.
That’s why we’re revealing 6 facts about our helloly data centers today.

Find out how helloly ensures maximum data protection and the highest possible availability with two data centers.
1. Dual Hosting in Austria
helloly operates a highly available Internet backbone. We store all data in two separate data centers to ensure maximum data security and data availability.
🇦🇹 100% in Austria!
2. Direct Connection to the VIX - Vienna Internet Exchange
VIX is a highly available and neutral Internet Exchange Point for the Central and Eastern European region.
The direct connection allows us to exchange data with all VIX participants at a central node.
This means that all the content we host for our customers is available quickly, securely and worldwide.
An Internet exchange node, also known as an Internet Exchange Point (IXP), consists mainly of high-performance switches.
The participating network operators, also known as peers, can connect their networks to these devices and thus communicate directly with each other. This method, also known as peering, offers several advantages:
- Shorter transmission times due to shorter distances
- Improved redundancy when connecting to other subscriber networks
- Less dependence on commercial transit providers
- less transit on international network structures due to load distribution of high-volume content (when connected to several IXPs)
If an IXP fails, the data packets still reach their destination because they simply take different routes from the source to the destination.
This means that the data packets may take a little longer to arrive, but still arrive reliably.
IXPs do not provide Internet access, but only connectivity for data exchange between their peers. Therefore, each participant needs an upstream provider in addition to their IXP connection.
The ZID (Zentraler Informatikdienst) of the University of Vienna founded the Vienna Internet Exchange in 1996 as the first IXP (Internet Exchange Point) in Austria. Since then, there has not been a single major incident.
As the VIX is operated by the University of Vienna and not by a private company, absolute (network) neutrality and transparency are guaranteed.
The three VIX locations in Vienna are connected via redundant fiber optic lines. This means that VIX is largely fail-safe.
The average traffic is around 700 gigabits per second. That corresponds to 87.5 gigabytes per second!
2. 100% Green Energy
Our data centers are powered 100% by wind and hydropower.
This not only ensures a clear conscience, but also a sustainable future.
3. 99.999% Availability
Together, our data centers have a statistical reliability of 99.999%. We would like to briefly explain how important these three decimal places are:
99% reliability means that the servers are unavailable for 3.65 days per year. 99.999% reliability reduces downtime to 6 minutes per year.
4. Highest Safety Measures
Our data centers have multi-layered access control
- Fenced area
- Video Surveillance
- 24/7 Security Staff
- Biometric Fingerprint
- Remote Monitoring and early warning Systems
- Multiple redundant Infrastructure
5. Uninterruptible Power Supply
Our data centers have a redundant power connection and an uninterruptible power supply (UPS).
If the power should fail despite a redundant supply, the lights are far from going out. In the first few minutes, battery-powered UPSs supply our servers until the diesel generators kick in. And they run for as long as necessary.
6. Industry Leading Hardware
As a young hosting company with over 20 years of experience, we are in the fortunate position of having standardized server hardware in use.
Our equipment has not grown over the years or decades, but is now at the cutting edge. We rely on hardware from Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) to ensure reliable and smooth operation.
