Explanation of the AWStats Website Statistics

FAQ Bild

The website analysis and statistics tool AWStats can be found in the cPanel in the helloly customer center. Note: AWStats generates statistics directly from the server logs and does not set any cookies for the visitor. Therefore, no cookie banner is required for website analysis with AWStats.

We would like to briefly explain the most common terms used in this tool.

Unique Visitors: If one visitor visits your website several times a day, he is counted as one unique visitor. This value indicates how many different, unique visitors have accessed your domain and therefore your website.

Number of visits: Regardless of how often the same visitor accesses your domain and therefore your website, each visit is counted. If the number of unique visitors is identical to the number of visits, this means that each unique visitor has accessed your domain and therefore your website exactly once.

Pages: This number indicates how many individual websites were visited. If your website only consists of one page, the number of pages will correspond to the number of visits. However, websites usually have several pages. If you divide the number of pages by the number of visits, you will know how many (sub)pages were called up for each visit.

Hits: Every request to the server that is noted in the log file is counted. Requests relating to HTML pages are also counted under pages. In addition, the parameter "hits" also provides information about requests relating to images, audio files, cgi scripts, etc.

Bytes: The total amount of data sent by the server is listed here: Images, video and audio files, HTML pages, etc.

Viewed traffic: Any data transfer that has been rendered in a browser and thus has been seen by a person is counted as viewed traffic.

Not viewed traffic: Not viewed traffic is any data transfer that has not been rendered in a browser and therefore has not been seen by a person. Examples of this are web crawlers that crawl websites on behalf of search engines and any data transfer that was not delivered to the browser as a visible/audible result.
