WordPress reports missing persistent object caching

FAQ Bild

The WordPress Dashboard contains the module Site Health Status. If you click on the link Site Health screen within this module, WordPress lists a number of recommendations for improving security and performance.

One of these performance recommendations is You should use a persistent object cache. In detail it states: "A persistent object cache makes your site's database more efficient, resulting in faster load times because WordPress can retrieve your site's content and settings much faster. Your hosting provider can tell you if a persistent object cache can be enabled for your website."

This performance recommendation is generated automatically by WordPress. It is not based on a check of the website or hosting performance. If no persistent object cache is available, the recommendation is issued.

For all helloly web hosting packages PHP-FPM is installed. This process manager ensures that frequently required data is moved to the working memory - in a similar way to a persistent object cache.

In internal tests, a persistent object cache in combination with PHP-FPM did not increase performance. With certain plug-ins, the persistent object cache even led to problems.

For this reason, we use PHP-FPM for all web hosting packages to increase performance.
