What is NVMe? The new hosting generation at helloly

FAQ Bild

NVMe stands for Non-Volatile Memory Express. It is a software protocol used to connect SSDs (Solid State Drives) to computers and servers via the physical PCIe (Peripheral Component Interconnect Express) interface. But what does this mean for web hosting – and how do you benefit as a customer?

Fast, faster, SSD, NVMe!

As a web hosting provider, we at helloly store our customers' websites on hard drives installed in our servers, which in turn are operated in our data centers. To ensure that our customers' websites load at lightning speed, our data centers need a solid, high-performance internet connection. But that's only half the battle.

The speed of the hard drives on which we host the websites is equally essential for the performance of our service. While conventional Solid State Drives (SSD) can transfer approx. 500-600 MB per second, SSDs via NVMe are in a completely different league.

With transfer rates of approx. 7,000 MB per second, they transfer an entire DVD in under one second. A whole terabyte can be transferred in less than two and a half minutes. At the same time, latency is significantly lower.

NVMe: On your marks, get set: First!

Currently, there is no higher-performance storage solution than SSDs with NVMe. helloly exclusively installs NVMe hard drives, meaning all hosting packages benefit from high speed and low latency.

Due to the low latency (response time), these hard drives react to server requests lightning-fast: On average, a request is answered in under 100 microseconds (0.000001 seconds). Especially with shared hosting systems, where multiple websites are operated on one server, this drastically increases performance.

This also benefits search engine rankings. The faster a website reacts to requests, the more attractive it is for visitors – and thus also for search engines.

Conclusion: It doesn't get any faster

NVMe-based SSDs represent the non plus ultra in the field of storage solutions. With unsurpassed performance and groundbreaking response times, they represent the new hosting generation at helloly, from which all our customers benefit. And at the best price!
